Method of colonization: An important link in the international pet trade, the house cat can live partially confined or fully at liberty in the natural environment.

Means of colonization: Accidental and voluntary human introduction.

Impacts: Notorious predators, cats threaten many species of birds and small mammals, particularly fragile island populations.

Rate of reproduction: Sexual maturity at 9 months, gestation period of 65 days and a litter of 4 to 6 kittens; up to 3 litters per year.

Obstacles to eradication: Value as a pet, widespread distribution and strong adaptability.
